Profile of the author
Lawrence G. Desmond who writes this blog received an MA in anthropology from the Universidad de las Americas in Cholula, Mexico, and a PhD in anthropology and archaeology from the University of Colorado, Boulder. He has carried out ethnographic, archaeological, and heritage preservation projects in Mexico for more than 40 years, and published numerous articles, ten books of photos of Mexico and North America, a catalog-book of 1,034 19th century photos by Alice Dixon and Augustus Le Plongeon, and the books: A Dream of Maya: Alice and Augustus Le Plongeon in 19th century Yucatán, and Yucatán through her eyes: Alice Dixon Le Plongeon, writer and expeditionary photographer. He recently published a book of his photos of participants in Harvard University’s Moses Mesoamerican Archive and Research Project symposia (Scholars in Dark Glasses) where he is a Senior Research Fellow in Archaeology, and a Research Associate with the Department of Anthropology at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco.
